Australian Cloud Document Management Provider Edocx Among the First Customers to Select the Oper8 National Digital Archive
Brisbane — May 14, 2014 — Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE 6501) and Brisbane based, Australian owned and operated IT services provider, Oper8 Pty Ltd (Oper8), today announced the launch of the Oper8 National Digital Archive, a locally hosted, public cloud storage service underpinned by the Hitachi Content Platform (HCP).
Oper8 has partnered with Hitachi Data Systems to support its growing portfolio of Australian cloud services with a cloud infrastructure that meets the highest data security, availability and compliance requirements, with data guaranteed to be stored in Australia. Initially housed in the Polaris Tier III, high security data centre, the Hitachi content management solution enables Oper8 to store, protect, preserve and retrieve unstructured data with a single storage platform.
At its core is Hitachi Content Platform, a multipurpose object storage system designed to support large-scale repositories of unstructured data. With the ability to leverage Hitachi Data Ingestor (HDI) technology as a local edge NAS cache and on-ramp for cloud backup and archiving, HCP links the cloud storage and data management services directly to the Oper8 National Digital Archive.
"We chose Hitachi Data Systems to build the storage and content management infrastructure of the National Digital Archive. This has enabled us to launch a true cloud service for value added services such as document management, workflow capabilities, backup as a service, and archive, all built on the Hitachi content cloud. Companies from a range of industries such as legal, finance and health can use this service to archive, store and distribute digital content across multiple, geographically dispersed sites and branches," said Mark Owen, Oper8 chief operating officer.
"Normally backup windows are large. With an Oper8 Edge NAS cache connected to the National Digital Archive we can backup large, unstructured data sets of more than 30TB per day for our clients," said Owen. "The bottomless NAS capabilities delivered by the Oper8 Edge NAS cache are extremely powerful for storage redundancy, backup and archive, even for the most mission critical data such as CCTV footage and financial records."
Demand for Onshore Cloud Drives Customer Momentum for Oper8 National Digital Archive
One of the first customers to choose the Oper8 National Digital Archive as their Australian storage solution is Australian cloud-based document provider, Edocx.
Edocx is a popular Australian electronic document management and sharing service that brings big business infrastructure to the SMB sector at a competitive price. By partnering with Oper8 as the local cloud service provider, the company can guarantee that user data will always be stored in the user account and within the selected jurisdiction. This is a vital consideration for SMBs, corporations and governments who choose cloud services, especially with the Australian Privacy Act changes that came into effect on March 12, 2014.
Chris Love, chief architect, Edocx, said the appointment of Oper8 as its strategic partner marked the next stage of the company's growth phase in Australia.
"The ability to integrate the Edocx application with a partner's storage solution is an example of the flexibility and potential of the application," said Love. "This makes Edocx the perfect cloud partner with the ability to control where, how and by whom your data is stored."
"As the first provider to offer Edocx on a local cloud infrastructure we take a very compelling service to market. With the growing demand for onshore Australian cloud storage solutions, the market recognises the Oper8 National Digital Archive as the trusted data repository and archive for Australian organisations that require certainty on data sovereignty, location and security," said Owen.
Australian Organisations Move Applications in the Cloud
"There is a powerful shift underway in the IT market towards a utility computing model, one that Australian providers are well positioned to capitalise on," said Altay Ayyuce, director, cloud and service provider, Hitachi Data Systems, Australia and New Zealand. "We are pleased to partner with Oper8 to deliver the content management solution for its document management, archive and backup offering in the cloud. More businesses across all sectors are moving to deploy applications in the cloud to drastically reduce IT operational costs, but they seek local cloud providers to meet data security, privacy and compliance requirements."
Delivering infrastructure management, and converged and content management solutions and services as a tailored business model, Hitachi Data Systems allows cloud and service providers to flex up and down to capitalise on the growing demand for near-shoring cloud services without the capital expense (capex) and management requirements of traditional infrastructure in their data centre. Hitachi Data Systems recently announced the launch of its ANZ Cloud and Service Provider division, and already works with more than 20 service providers in Australia and New Zealand.
