Challenge: Map Implementation To Allow Real-Time 24/7 Response

When a global telecom firm was looking for a third party to migrate its U.S. government data to the cloud, they chose cloud modernization services from Hitachi Vantara. The complexity of the project was in identifying issues in moving to Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud by completing AWS Well-Architected Framework, while ensuring compliance with NIST Special Publication 800-83 and Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) requirements. The final implementation solution also needed to:

  • Provide for configuration and monitoring of a real-time response system for police departments, FBI and other government agencies.
  • Support 24/7 operations in U.S., satisfying stringent U.S. citizenship and background check requirements.
  • Align to CJIS and other security policies for incident, problem and change management as well as security information and event management (SIEM) tools and configuration management databases (CMDB).

In less than four weeks, a global telco worked with Hitachi services to:

  • Onboard and operationalize four government clouds.
  • Meet 99% of service level agreement (SLA) commitments.

Solution: Create Dedicated Team, Provide Desktop Support, Document Processes

The solution called for a four-week onboarding process to operationalize four GovCloud accounts and initiate managed services monitoring. It also:

  • Onboarded a GovCloud and FedRAMP compliant real-time threat monitoring tool.
  • Implemented U.S.-based 24/7 managed services desktop support for CJIS compliance for almost a dozen environments.
  • Deployed a team of more than 10 U.S.-based full-time employees (FTEs), trained on CJIS compliance with clearly delineated duties.
  • Defined and documented processes for annual incident response plans.

Hitachi Vantara’s cloud modernization services now provide and manage a set of real-time, high-security digital platforms for the global telco. The solution:

  • Serves government entities across the U.S. with near 100% uptime across more than two score users, a dozen monitoring tools and over 90 middleware instances.
  • Implements close to 20 key process improvement initiatives.
  • Drafts more than almost 25 process documents, which are continuously reviewed and updated.
  • Scales to monitor about 100 continuous integrations (CIs) and handle upwards of 590 alerts per month.
