HDS and Veritas Launch Enterprise-Class Data Protection Backup-As-A-Service Solution
New high performance, consumption-based offering enables businesses to meet stringent data protection requirements in Hong Kong
HONG KONG – July 7, 2016 – Hitachi Data Systems Corporation (HDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501), and Veritas Technologies, the global leader in information management, have joined forces to launch an innovative new backup-as-a-service (BaaS) solution for enterprise-class data protection in Hong Kong. Improving restore success rates by over 95 percent, this new solution is an ideal alternative to a traditional on-site tape backup architecture.
Data is one of the most valuable assets of any business today but many organizations continue to experience challenges in meeting service level agreements (SLA) for backup and recovery. In addition to long restoration times, traditional backup infrastructures are limited in capacity, flexibility and efficiency, and are expensive to maintain.
With the new BaaS solution jointly developed by HDS and Veritas, organizations with stringent data protection requirements can now benefit from an SLA-based service catalogue for data protection services that is priced by monthly usage in a consumption-based model.
Awarded the Global Strategic Partner of the Year for Asia Pacific at the Veritas 2015 Asia Pacific and Japan Partner Awards, HDS is committed to working with Veritas to ensure that this new solution allows customers to effectively manage, protect and govern their data across its entire lifecycle. As the strategic partner offering BaaS with Veritas' XSP license in Hong Kong, HDS brings to businesses a subscription-based, managed backup service that feature state-of-the-art data protection technologies.
Customers can move seamlessly from a capex model to an opex model while gaining better budget control and earlier service upgrades. The pay-per-use consumption model also provides the flexibility and scalability that IT needs to meet evolving business demands and regulatory compliance obligations, enabling organizations to redirect resources to focus on core business. Other features include 24/7 remote monitoring, administration and management of backup and data recovery. In addition, a built-in ITIL v3 management and governance model delivers consistent quality of service while responding to changes in the business and regulatory environment.
"The new BaaS solution launched in concert with Veritas transforms the backup equation for businesses that rely on the quality and availability of their data for their success and survival. Completely tapeless, this innovative offering is a full suite of infrastructure management and backup management services that offers performance and cost efficiency in a single solution," said Andrew Sampson, general manager of Hong Kong and Macau, HDS.
"As the global information management leader, Veritas is focused on empowering our customers with smart choices for their information availability to be more productive and profitable. This new BaaS solution is a hybrid model that offers customers the flexibility to retain their data without compromising data integrity. The key to its enhanced performance is the reference architecture jointly developed by Veritas and HDS," said Ben Kwok, managing director, Hong Kong & Taiwan, Veritas.
Hosted in twin HDS data centers, this BaaS solution draws data from customer sites and stores daily copies for 31 days, monthly copies for a full year, and annual copies for up to seven years. The solution enhances the backup and recovery experience for enterprises, turning what was once a necessary chore into a smooth seamless operation that delivers superior RTO. Backup copies are always online and available for restoration at any time, reducing operating costs and the risk of data loss when removing tape for transportation and storage.
In addition, this BaaS solution optimizes the throughput performance of backup networks with backup deduplication. What's more, the solution shortens backup windows with NetBackup Accelerator and V-Ray technology. Supporting heterogeneous platforms including Microsoft® Windows®, UNIX and Linux platforms, the solution also supports common applications, such as Microsoft SQL Server®, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint®, Domino, Oracle and Sybase.
All these capabilities are integrated in a consumption model that offers enterprises scalability and unlimited backup capacity, both locally and in offsite vaults.
