Bywaters' Customers Save Money and Co2 with Pentaho Embedded Analytics

April 15, 2014

New "BRAD" Real-time Recycling Portal Uses Geo-mapping to Help Customers Improve Environmental Performance

April 15, 2014, San Francisco — Delivering the future of analytics, Pentaho Corporation today announced that its UK customer Bywaters, which provides waste management and recycling services, has launched BRAD (Bywaters Reporting Analytics and Dashboards), a web-based portal designed to help its customers save money while improving environmental performance. Built on Pentaho's Business Analytics platform, BRAD goes live today following an extensive pilot with 60 of Bywaters' largest customers in London and the Southeast.

Governed Data Discovery
BRAD is the most sophisticated portal of its kind in the London area, allowing customers to explore and analyse real-time data by date, material/waste type, weight, invoice value and even location on a map, thanks to Pentaho's advanced geo-mapping capabilities. This web-based discovery means customers can take active steps to meet and even exceed regulatory compliance targets by setting internal strategies and policies based on data trends. BRAD's data comes from Bywaters' operational systems (ERP, CRM, HR and Finance), its waste incineration plants and Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and held in a central data warehouse. Pentaho's ability to extract, cleanse and integrate this varied assortment of data means that Bywaters' customers can be confident that their waste analyses are both reliable and complete. According to Sasha Korniak, Head of Analytics and Data Science, Bywaters, "We have found that customers will only embrace and use BRAD if they completely trust its data. On top of enabling data discovery through its analytics and visualisation capabilities, Pentaho made it easy to set up sophisticated governance rules that ensure all of the data behind BRAD remains clean, reliable and up-to date."

Serving a Wide Range of Reporting Needs
Customers can use BRAD to obtain information on things like costs versus tonnage collected, frequency of collections, site by tonnage and actual service usage. It also provides information on recycling volumes and weight, procurement and carbon footprints. Using Pentaho Business Analytics, BRAD is able meets different users' varying reporting needs through standard time or event specific reports and monthly geo collection maps that represent customers' collections with information such as quality and material types by location overlaid visually on a map (see picture). With these new enhanced analytical features, Bywaters hopes to build better customer relationships, help their customers cut cost and improve environmental performance.
