Silverchair Embeds Pentaho to Empower Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers

Leading Scholarly Publishing Platform Transforms its Data Warehouse and ETL Process to Deliver Enhanced Advertising Opportunities, Improved User Experience, and Proprietary Business Intelligence

September 4, 2014, — Delivering the future of analytics, Pentaho Corporation today announced Silverchair Information Systems has embedded Pentaho Business Analytics to redefine how the scholarly publishing industry leverages the value of its content by transforming its data warehouse and ETL processes. Silverchair is now able to provide richer and more valuable contextual data in advertising feeds, create personalized content recommendations based on a reader's history (much like Netflix and Amazon, but in a highly technical space), and provide novel insights about content usage to scholarly Publishers and Editors. Working with the Scientific, Technical and Medical (STM) publishing industry, Silverchair has propelled user content to enable greater reach, impact, and utility through these integrated and personalized solutions.

By embedding the Pentaho Business Analytics platform, Silverchair has developed an easy-to-use analytics solution to rapidly extract, transform and load large volumes of user data to quickly analyze and surface trends in topic usage. Silverchair semantically enriches publisher content with domain-specific taxonomies, enhancing search and discovery and repackaging content into publisher-defined Topic Collections. Now leveraging Pentaho Data Integration tools, Silverchair has extended the value of this semantic enrichment to further move ahead of its peers and opened new market opportunities and enhanced revenue streams via standard advertising feeds. Silverchair can now provide an advertiser not only with typical metadata about a given user and the content on the current page, but also include demonstrated preferred interests, adding a powerful third stream of contextual data to the feed.

Integrating Pentaho's rich analytics offering into the Silverchair software as a service (SaaS) platform delivered substantial benefits, including enhanced competitive differentiation, increased customer satisfaction and the ability to tap new markets for growth. Furthermore, when compared to a homegrown approach, embedding Pentaho Business Analytics required less investment of time and resources, which resulted in superior time-to-value for the Silverchair analytics initiative.
