Unify silos into a data warehouse and create a single source of truth for its data.
Pentaho Data Integration provided the capabilities needed to unify its data.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia (Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral Republik Indonesia) is responsible for providing assistance to the President and Vice President in performing government's affairs in the field of energy and mineral resources.
Four directorate generals and four agencies report to the Ministry, which has approximately 6,000 mining contracts, and about 200 of them are with oil and gas, as well as the electricity system. Each of the contractors provides reports and manages data in different ways.
With data across multiple organizations, the Ministry instructed Pusdatin, a centralized IT division, to build a national data repository. To achieve this, the division needed to consolidate and standardize data and create a single source of truth for that data.
Hitachi Vantara proposed its Pentaho solution to build a data warehouse. Utilizing Pentaho Data Integration the Ministry could more efficiently onboard and cleanse data to build the central repository from all their disparate sources.
Pentaho Data Integration was able to extract, transform and load (ETL) workflows. It enabled Pusdatin staff in the Central IT Division to connect to disparate data sources and perform high-speed cleansing and validation tasks before loading the information into the central data warehouse. Combined with Pentaho Business Analytics, the Ministry built a unified solution that empowered users to access, blend and analyze all types of data.
With the data warehouse, the Ministry was able to create a solid data foundation to provide integrated, trusted and timely data, from which it can perform analysis and reporting.
By enabling information to be distributed across the company more efficiently and consistently, the Ministry gained a more holistic view of its subsidiaries', agencies' and contractors' data. With a 360-degree view of the organization, the Ministry has greater perspective and insight to optimize the organization.
"Building an integrated data warehouse allowed us to better manage data from multiple sources. With a single view of our data, we now have the foundation in place for greater reporting and analytics." says the Head of Data and Information Technology Center at Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Agus Cahyono Adi.
