HMAX Cyber Overview

Tokyo, September 3, 2026 ー Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE:6501, "Hitachi"), today announced the launch of “HMAX Cyber” (“the service”), a new operational resilience service that protects enterprise systems from increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks and supports business continuity. The service is one of the Foundry Solutions that support HMAX by Hitachi (“HMAX”), a next-generation suite of solutions that brings the power of AI to social infrastructure. The service supports business continuity for enterprises in the AI era by combining insights into frontier AI*1 gained through collaboration with companies including Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google Cloud , with Hitachi’s operational and defense expertise cultivated at railway, energy, and industry infrastructure sites worldwide, as well as GlobalLogic’s experience and know-how gained through overcoming challenges together with customers. HMAX Cyber includes  three service categories: “Govern & Identify,” which anticipates and prepares for potential risks; “Manage,” which supports 24/7 monitoring and operations; and “Recover,” which enables rapid restoration in the event of an incident. The service provides comprehensive support ranging from Business Continuity Planning (BCP) development and vulnerability visualization to cyberattack prevention, rapid recovery, and BCP execution, thereby contributing to enhanced customer resilience.

By leveraging frontier AI, the service helps organizations identify unknown vulnerabilities and potential risks at an early stage, enabling a proactive defense approach that stays ahead of attackers. In addition, Hitachi is already using the service as Customer Zero across energy, railway, and industrial environments. For example, Hitachi Rail, which operates Hitachi’s global railway systems business, has introduced an Agentic SOC (Security Operations Center) *2 developed in collaboration with Google Cloud to autonomously respond to threats as part of its efforts to accelerate digital transformation. Hitachi continuously incorporates the effectiveness and operational insights gained through these internal practices into the service, further enhancing its capabilities. As a result, HMAX Cyber automates routine tasks, enabling cybersecurity professionals to focus on advanced decision-making efforts needed to achieve faster, more accurate responses that improve cyber resilience.

Furthermore, Hitachi’s FDE (Forward Deployed Engineer) teams, which work closely with frontline operations to rapidly resolve highly complex challenges using AI, will collaborate with the Frontier AI Deployment Center, which houses proven AI implementation expertise and technologies, to deliver value to a broad range of customers.

Hitachi is also focused on the social implementation of Physical AI by bringing together expertise in IT, OT, and products. At the core of this effort is HMAX, a next-generation suite of solutions that brings the power of AI to social infrastructure. The service is positioned as one of the Foundry Solutions supporting HMAX. Going forward, Hitachi will further enhance the service’s capabilities and expand it globally while continuing to advance its capabilities through collaboration with partners. Through these efforts, Hitachi will support the continuity of business activities and the stable operation of social infrastructure and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.

Background

AI’s rapid evolution in recent years has brought tremendous benefits to business. Meanwhile, cyberattacks have become increasingly sophisticated and faster, making it more difficult to prevent system intrusions. Additionally, attackers’ targets have expanded beyond the IT domain to include the OT domain and even entire supply chains involving business partners. Threats that infiltrate through these various pathways do not immediately surface and may remain dormant within systems, sometimes resulting in severe business impacts such as prolonged operational shutdowns once they become apparent. Accordingly, organizations are required not only to implement preventive measures thoroughly but also to establish frameworks that minimize the impact on business operations and enable rapid recovery in the event of an intrusion. Addressing cyberattacks has become a management issue critical to protecting corporate value and ensuring business continuity.

Comment from Yoshinori Hosoya, Vice President and Executive Officer, CEO of AI & Software Services Business Unit, Hitachi, Ltd.

“Hitachi has built up extensive experience in cybersecurity across the IT, OT, and product domains over many years. Building on this expertise, we established the Cyber Center of Excellence as a dedicated cybersecurity organization, bringing together the collective strengths of the Hitachi Group while advancing the detection of and response to cyber threats through collaboration with global AI companies. We are pleased to offer a uniquely Hitachi service that provides comprehensive coverage from prevention and operational monitoring to rapid recovery in the event of an incident, leveraging both the proven results of Hitachi's own Customer Zero initiatives and the application of frontier AI technologies. Going forward, Hitachi will continue to enhance HMAX Cyber, helping customers achieve secure and sustainable business growth while building resilient operational foundations.”

Three HMAX Cyber Service Categories Overview

1. Govern & Identify: Anticipating and preparing for potential risks

Through support for BCP development and regulatory compliance, the service clarifies response procedures for emergencies while visualizing information assets and potential risks across IT and OT environments. In addition, drawing on the expertise of the FDE teams, centered on GlobalLogic, which have worked alongside customers to solve frontline challenges, the service conducts frontier AI-powered vulnerability assessments to support the early identification of complex security risks. Furthermore, through support for establishing a PSIRT (Product Security Incident Response Team)*3, organizations can discover and address their own weaknesses before attackers can exploit them. By combining practical expertise cultivated through Hitachi’s social infrastructure businesses with state-of-the-art technologies, the service enables management and frontline personnel to share a common understanding of risks and proactively prepare for business continuity, thereby minimizing risks arising from the increasing speed and sophistication of cyberattacks.

*3 PSIRT: An organization established to improve the security of products and services and respond to incidents such as defects and system failures.

2. Manage: Continuous 24/7 protection through human-AI collaboration

Powered by Hitachi’s integrated IT/OT SOC, which provides 24/7 continuous monitoring, the service enables an Agentic SOC model, in which AI agents autonomously identify and investigate threats and initiate response actions, realizing a new approach to security operations. This monitoring is supported by globally collected and analyzed threat intelligence. By continuously incorporating the latest attack methods and vulnerability trends into the service and proactively detecting indicators of attacks targeting the organization, the service rapidly performs automated threat detection, initial response, and containment such as network isolation, including at night and on holidays.

Furthermore, leveraging the integrated IT/OT monitoring and analysis expertise accumulated through Hitachi Rail’s operation of railway systems worldwide, together with Google Cloud’s advanced cloud and cybersecurity technologies, the service draws on Hitachi's practical experience operating mission-critical systems that support social infrastructure. Insights gained through incident response are fed back into operations to continuously enhance monitoring and analysis capabilities. As a result, organizations can maintain business continuity and resilient operations without having to maintain in-house teams of highly skilled cyber security personnel.

3. Recover: Enabling rapid business recovery should an incident occur

The service supports recovery planning that assumes cyberattacks will occur, rapid data restoration, and execution of BCPs involving executive management. In today’s environment, where preventing intrusions into systems is increasingly more difficult, the ability to continue operations after an incident occurs is critical. The service uses Hitachi Vantara’s proprietary data protection technology*4 to isolate critical data in environments inaccessible to external attackers while simultaneously providing an environment that enables rapid restoration to the last known good state prior to an attack. In addition, based on its track record and expertise in supporting mission-critical systems globally, Hitachi manages cyberattacks not merely as IT risks but from a business continuity perspective. This all helps organizations establish a resilient management foundation capable of quickly resuming operations even after ransomware and similar attacks. Furthermore, by leveraging Hitachi’s own practical BCP expertise, the service supports everything from restoring affected systems to enabling rapid executive-level situational awareness and decision-making, thereby contributing to the rapid recovery of business operations.
