President, Hitachi Digital and Executive Chairman, Hitachi Digital Services

April 06, 2021

As we embark on a new fiscal year at Hitachi, I am excited to welcome two new leaders to the Hitachi Vantara executive team. It is my honor and privilege to welcome Jun Abe and Hiroyuki Kumazaki, two seasoned leaders who are joining us from other important roles at Hitachi.

Jun Abe joins Hitachi Vantara as the new Chairman of the Board, succeeding Toshiaki Tokunaga.

I would like to sincerely thank Tokunaga-san for his mentorship since I joined Hitachi Vantara as CEO in 2020, and for his leadership of the merger with Hitachi Consulting, which substantially advanced our strategy to become a digital infrastructure, data management and digital solutions powerhouse. Tokunaga-san will stay closely involved with Hitachi Vantara through his role as Chairman and CEO of Hitachi Global Digital Holdings Corporation, which drives strategy for IT Sector businesses at Hitachi overall.

Abe-san joined Hitachi in 1984 and has held critical business and engineering management roles across Hitachi, including in the Social Innovation Business Division, Control System Platform Division and R&D Management Division. Most recently, he held the role of Vice President and Executive Officer, CEO of Industry & Distribution Business Unit and Chairman of J.R. Automation Technologies, LLC. I am delighted to welcome Abe-san as our new chairman.

Hiroyuki Kumazaki is joining Hitachi Vantara as our new Chief Strategy Officer. With over 30 years at Hitachi, Kumazaki-san has held many prominent leadership roles driving areas including corporate strategy and global software development. In his most recent role, he served as Chief Lumada Business Officer and has been key to driving the Lumada strategy for Hitachi overall. This significant appointment further cements the role of Hitachi Vantara as the driving force behind the global growth of Lumada solutions. Kumazaki-san succeeds Masateru Hiyashihara, who will continue his Hitachi journey in a new role as Deputy General Manager of Strategy, Planning Division, focusing on developing and promoting corporate strategy to accelerate Hitachi’s digital transformation.

Please join me in welcoming Abe-san and Kumazaki-san to Hitachi Vantara!
