Sustainability Governance

Our sustainability work is aligned with Hitachi’s sustainability policies and initiatives, led by Hitachi Group’s chief sustainability officer. Within Hitachi Vantara, sustainability is overseen by the Executive Committee with sponsorship from the chief executive officer and senior vice president, business strategy, who review and approve the company’s sustainability program, strategy and targets. The sustainability director is responsible for spearheading the transformation of our sustainability strategy and program day-to-day.

Governance Structure

Our governance framework gives the company clear lines of authority and shared accountability. It defines who owns strategy and who oversees performance and sets out how decisions travel through the business so risk surfaces early and gets managed deliberately. We review the framework and its membership on a regular cycle, internally and through our external auditors, so the right people and processes stay in place to prevent and detect risk and non-compliance.

Our governance bodies

Board of Directors: oversight of company strategy and sustainability performance, and accountability for the integrity of operations.
Executive Leadership Team: chaired by our CEO, turning governance strategy into everyday practice across functions and regions.
Five standing committees: Audit, Business Continuity Management, Internal Risks and Controls, Policy Steering, and Sustainability.

We align our information security practices with recognized standards such as ISO/IEC 27001 and NIST guidance. Our cybersecurity team monitors for threats and responds to incidents, and customers or researchers can report potential vulnerabilities directly to that team.

Our Global Data Protection and Privacy Policy governs how we handle personal information and keep it protected, with controls designed to meet privacy obligations across the markets we serve.

We follow the Hitachi Group Human Rights Policy and conduct ongoing due diligence in line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Hitachi has participated in the UN Global Compact since 2009, and grievance and reporting mechanisms are open to anyone who needs to raise a concern.
