October 06, 2011

Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform Takes Virtualization Category Top Honor

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — October 6, 2011 — Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT/ TSE: 6501), today announced that Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) received a 2011 Tech Innovator award from CRN in the virtualization category. CRN’s 9th annual Tech Innovator listing celebrates vendors that have introduced new products or solutions to drive advances in the technology channel. Companies on this exclusive list recently implemented innovative methods to solve problems facing channel executives today.

“We’re honored to be among this year’s CRN Tech Innovators, and we’re proud to see Hitachi VSP continue to be recognized for its flexibility, performance, functionality, integration and ease of deployment that make it a superior platform to deliver enterprise class services,” said Roberto Basilio, vice president of product management, Storage Hardware, Hitachi Data Systems. “In just one year, we’ve shipped more than 1,800 Hitachi VSP systems to hundreds of organizations worldwide, enabling them to build massive scalability with virtualized server environments and pave the way for cloud services at their own pace.”

“In today’s challenging business environment, it’s more important than ever to discover, nurture and reward new ideas,” said Kelley Damore, vice president, Editorial Director for UBM Channel. “This year’s Tech Innovator Awards recognize technology companies like Hitachi Data Systems that have used original methods or technologies to deliver cutting-edge products and partner support. We congratulate this year’s winners on their success, and applaud them for breaking away from traditional thinking to create completely new and unique channel opportunities.”

Hitachi VSP, the industry’s first three-dimensional scaling platform, lets organizations scale up, out and deep for unprecedented levels of agility and cost savings in their virtualized data centers. The economically superior storage architecture of Hitachi VSP includes three key elements — 1) multivendor storage virtualization, 2) tiered storage with automated, policy driven movement between tiers, and 3) thin provisioning — which can adapt for performance and capacity and reduce TCO by 33% compared to previous storage architectures. Hitachi VSP provides embedded storage virtualization to extend its enterprise capabilities to external non-enterprise storage systems. As part of its capabilities to scale up to meet increasing server demands and scale out to provide a safe multitenant environment for multiple servers, VSP can extend them to external storage so that customers do not need to rip and replace their existing storage assets.
