As hybrid multicloud landscapes continue to expand and complexities climb, two critical processes for gathering and crunching data in real-time and streamlining functions may go down as the unsung heroes of the modern enterprise: OLTP and application consolidation.
There’s a lot to like about online transaction processing (OLTP), which enables organizations to execute large numbers of database transactions from large numbers of people in real-time concurrently, and usually over the Internet.
This type of data processing is behind the kind of high-volume, short-lived transactions found in everything from ATM transactions and credit card processing to online ticket purchases. It’s also the technology behind non-financial work, like SMS text messaging.
