Standing Up for Justice

Like many of you, I am heartbroken by the recent events in the United States. As people gather across the nation to protest racial injustice and the senseless deaths of George Floyd and many others, I wanted to reach out to each of you.

Our company's values of harmony, sincerity and pioneering spirit are more than just words. They are a commitment that each of us will value the voices, thoughts and contributions of those around us. They also serve as a commitment to treat others with kindness, compassion and equality regardless of race, religion, gender identification, ethnicity, age, or sexual preference. At Hitachi, we deeply value and appreciate the differences that make us unique and special.

Of course, our pioneering spirit calls on us to not just dream of a better world, but take active steps every day to contribute to lasting change. There is no place for hate in our society and there is much to be done to end the disregard for basic human rights and close the rifts that exist in our society worldwide. We must start now.

We believe in the rights of all people and our commitment to the elimination of racial discrimination and injustice across the globe. Today, we stand alongside our Black employees everywhere calling for change.

Real change requires listening, speaking up and taking action. We will continue to focus on diversity and inclusion, understanding we have work to do as a company to achieve our full potential. We are enhancing training modules to help open our eyes to unintentional actions and unconscious bias that can create inequality. We are also relaunching our employee resource groups, which will serve as a great place to have critical conversations with peers. I'd also encourage you to provide feedback during virtual coffee sessions with your leaders. These conversations have never been more important.

I believe our diversity makes us better. It makes us stronger. Together, we have the power to create positive change and build a better tomorrow…for each and every one of us.
