Why is DataOps important? Without intelligent data operations (DataOps), there can be no digital innovation. Agile data environments improve business operations and enable new customer experiences and new business models.
Our customers demonstrate every day the value of their data and how it is critical for digital transformation. For example, an international company that provides an online B2B procurement platform consolidated data for more than 400 million items per day and created a single source of truth for fast self-service analytics to its business users. It also automated DevOps to free IT and data scientists from routine tasks. In another customer example, a large utilities company merged its IoT edge data from thousands of devices with business and consumer information, providing superior quality of service to its clients.
These companies recognized that the sheer size and scope of today’s operations is simply too great for the traditional data management approach. As organizations take advantage of the benefits of adding multiple clouds as well as edge systems to their environments, their data management requirements become exponentially more complicated. Using the data from disparate sources effectively and efficiently requires proprietary tools and skills in each of the various clouds, which is neither cost-effective nor scalable.
Although most organizations today have become extremely proficient at generating and collecting data, the essential next step is to find a way to make that data usable at scale. Intelligent DataOps is that next step.
A Data Foundation for Digital Innovation — Hitachi’s Lumada DataOps Suite
Working with hundreds of customers on their digital transformations, we have learned that there can be no digital innovation without intelligent data management. That’s why we’ve developed the Lumada DataOps Suite. Lumada helps organizations worldwide (from startups to Fortune 500 companies) to modernize data operations from the edge to the cloud. Lumada provides a governed, trusted, high-quality and agile data foundation for people and processes driving business innovation.
Why do we call it the DataOps Suite? It’s specifically designed to remove common bottlenecks in the DataOps life cycle that result from manual steps and brittle integrations, and ill-coordinated handovers across data architects, IT and business users. Lumada uses metadata-driven intelligent pipeline automation and data placement and cataloging, which facilitates data team collaboration. For example, with self-service analytics, a data engineer can build a data pipeline that a business analyst can then discover, using plain business terms, and customize and execute.
The best news is that it works with existing data infrastructures and preferred clouds with pre-integrations and open APIs. With the suite, our customers are transforming data silos into comprehensive edge-core-cloud data fabrics.
What’s in the Lumada DataOps Suite
The Lumada DataOps Suite is a modular system for intelligent data operations. Use each module standalone or in combination. The modules in the suite work together for end-to-end data operations. It ingests and processes data from anywhere. Data cataloging and automation not only secures data for governance and compliance, but it enables self-service data access for easy data discovery, reporting and access to actionable insights. In addition, an intelligent data tiering solution reduces Hadoop infrastructure costs using object storage for seamless application access.
A Foundation for Intelligent DataOps — Pentaho Data Integration
A cornerstone of the Lumada DataOps Suite is Pentaho Enterprise Edition by Hitachi Vantara. It delivers Lumada’s data integration and analytics capabilities. Pentaho Data Integration, recently released as 9.1, has been proven in thousands of mission-critical environments.
Building on the strong foundation that Pentaho offers, we incorporated Pentaho into the Lumada DataOps Suite for data integration and analytics, adding capabilities such as a data catalog, data optimization and edge applications to extend the value. And the suite is getting better all the time, such as with a new, Kubernetes-based Dataflow Studio, which is now in limited availability.
Financial Services Company Automates the Data Catalog for Self-Service Discovery
A major financial services company wanted to give business users access to the right data at the right time. With more than 10 million new files being generated every day, they needed an agile and responsive data lake. By implementing Lumada Data Catalog, they can now provide a self-service data catalog for business users—cataloging millions of files a day. By gaining faster analytics and insights, the organization is improving business outcomes and customer experiences through data.
Make the Most of Data
Organizations today need a comprehensive, intelligent data fabric with key capabilities that work together seamlessly to harness that data and bring the most value to the business.
With the Lumada DataOps Suite, our customers can get started anywhere — cataloging data, optimizing data, or moving data into a more modern location. Eventually they’ll need many or all these capabilities integrated, and with the suite, they are ready.
Hitachi has been helping companies build a better world for more than a century and our vision hasn’t changed — to help businesses improve and grow while powering good. Whether using the Lumada DataOps Suite capabilities individually or together, each organization can build the intelligent data operations they need to drive digital innovation in their business.
