Cargo 2000 Chooses Pentaho for Self-Service Reporting and Analytics

October 25, 2012

IATA interest group uses Pentaho Business Analytics to provide better services to its members

October 25, 2012, — Pentaho Corporation, delivering the future of business analytics, today announced that Cargo 2000, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) interest group whose mission is to implement a new quality management system for the worldwide air cargo industry, has chosen Pentaho Business Analytics to provide better data access, reporting and analytics across its entire membership.

Over 85 member companies rely on Cargo 2000 (C2K) for its supply chain process. The group provides information and reports back to its members regarding supply chain quality performance monitoring route maps for more than 15 million shipments per year. It also provides key performance statistics along the way.

With ever-growing data and new members being adding to the group, C2K realized that its old suite of tools for analysis and reporting was reaching its limits and needed to be replaced. Following a RFQ process, C2K selected a proposal from Pentaho Partner Linalis to build a new reporting system based on Pentaho Business Analytics as it best met the brief for ease-of-use, self service reporting, output in various formats, visualization of different data sources and scalability. It was also vital for C2K to be able to easily add new members without incurring additional license fees.

Linalis has built the solution using an agile business intelligence approach, enabling the C2K team to collaborate on the deployment process to ensure that it fulfills its requirements. Linalis has now executed the first phase of the project, which is the development of the fully automated ETL (Extraction, Translation, Load) system, using Pentaho Data Integration to collect and automatically load the data from the different external data sources into the Data Warehouse. Linalis will roll out reporting and analysis capabilities of Pentaho Business Analytics in phase two, enabling C2K members to run reports online and perform ad-hoc queries and reporting.

“At C2K, we are seeking to drive continuous improvement through the entire air cargo supply chain,” says, Mattijs ten Brink, chairman of C2k. “Pentaho’s powerful data analytics and self-service reporting will help us provide better services such as the ability to offer custom analysis and benchmark data for members to evaluate their performance against their peers and continuously improve quality.”

“Linalis’ proven experience in the airline industry and working with international organizations, combined with Pentaho’s scalability and compatibility with so many different external data sources, enables us to deliver the ideal solution to C2K,” says Steve Adams, Managing Director of Linalis. “Our partnership with Pentaho has enabled us capitalize on the burgeoning opportunity provided by business analytics.”

“C2K’s use of Pentaho Business Analytics to offer better reporting to its members reflects an important trend in the market - more and more organizations are embedding self-service reporting and analysis capabilities into their applications and services,” says Davy Nys, Regional Vice President EMEA & APAC, Pentaho. “We believe that these capabilities create major opportunities for growth and competitive advantage for both the company and its customers.”

IATA Solution Webinars
Pentaho will host educational webinars in October with its partner Linalis. This series of two different webinars will present a working case study explaining why and how the IATA Cargo2000 interest group has implemented Pentaho Business Analytics across its membership base to improve the quality delivered to customers.
