Hitachi Vantara ensures 100% data availability for operational resilience and compliance

Cybersecurity and the need for data resilience are at an inflection point.

Data is growing rapidly. By 2025, 180 zettabytes of data will exist globally, Statista reports.

Enterprise data is everywhere – on factory floors, on streets and highways, by point-of-sale terminals, and just about anywhere and by any other connected device that you can think of.

As data grows, so does the challenge of protecting enterprise data.

The cost and sophistication of cyberattacks are growing rapidly

Global ransomware this year will create an estimated $42 billion in damage, more than twice as much as it did just three years ago. And by 2031 – when ransomware is expected to strike every two seconds – that damage will reach an estimated $265 billion, according to Cybersecurity Ventures.

Plus, bad actors can now use AI to create and improve upon malware like ransomware, enabling alarming scale and sophistication. This trend is highlighted in a recent report by Barracuda, which says that the use of AI tools in phishing and automation attacks led to a twofold increase in ransomware attacks between July 2022 and August 2023.

That means the data on which business operations rely is more at risk than ever.

Enterprises can’t continue relying solely on traditional approaches

Faced with frequent and increasingly complex cyberattacks, the reactive approaches that organizations have traditionally relied on are not enough. Enterprises must also be proactive.

Enterprises need to adopt a posture in which they use AI to monitor their environment and scan for malware all the time. Companies need to use automation to react and notify when anomalies are detected so administrators can investigate and take appropriate triage and remediation actions.

In addition to becoming more proactive, they must safeguard their data, whether it’s in the data center, in the cloud or at the edge – and regardless of which vendor’s solution it runs on. And they want to be sure critical production and backup data is always available and always protected.

Always on, always protected data and operations are now possible

Hitachi Vantara makes all of that possible, and our HCP Anywhere Enterprise offering is the latest innovation to empower organizations to safeguard their future by modernizing data protection to strengthen operational resilience from edge to core.

HCP Anywhere Enterprise extends many of the great capabilities that Hitachi Vantara offers in the data center to remote offices, branch offices, and user devices like laptops and cell phones. With HCP Anywhere Enterprise, the data that is created outside of enterprise data centers gets transported to infrastructure that delivers strong data protection, reliability, and compliance.

HCP Anywhere Enterprise works with our own and your existing solutions

Together with Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) and Virtual Storage Platform One (VSP One), another recent Hitachi Vantara innovation, HCP Anywhere Enterprise provides reliable and secure immutable infrastructure that works with whatever data protection software organizations already have. That safeguards enterprise data, and data protection copies, against any kind of malware attack.

Much of that protection is rooted in the immutability capabilities of all three of these solutions.

  • VSP One allows enterprises to create immutable snapshots – essentially, point-in-time copies – of all the data that's in their systems. That way, if and when someone or something tries to delete or change data, the enterprise has an immutable snapshot, and it can restore it back to the production environment. In fact, Hitachi Vantara provides the world’s fastest ransomware recovery from immutable snapshots for VMware environments.
  • HCP object storage also offers immutable data storage, versioning, retention, and more. It thwarts any attempts to change data by preventing the new, encrypted version from overwriting the original so the last good version of the data can be easily recovered.
  • HCP Anywhere Enterprise has ransomware protection capabilities that detect when ransomware hits and can then notify administrators immediately. HCP Anywhere Enterprise also takes advantage of HCP to recover entire file systems from the snapshots, enabling rapid recovery at scale.

The immutability provided by these offerings also integrate with Hitachi Data Protection Suite (HDPS) powered by Commvault and Commvault Hyperscale X to protect backup copies. This is essential as increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks are now targeting backup data in an attempt to prevent victims from recovering their data.

These capabilities are extremely valuable for organizations that depend on data to run business operations. Typically, file system recoveries are painful and take a long time. But with HCP Anywhere Enterprise, organizations can recover file systems a whole lot faster, and they don’t have to rip and replace existing environments and start over.

Now is the time to improve data protection and resiliency, and we’re here to help!

We provide a consistent set of tools that protect enterprise data – whether that data was created inside or outside the data center, and wherever it is stored or running.
